Compressor Power Estimator

What this tool does

Provides a screening estimate of hydrogen compression duty, shaft power, outlet temperature, and annual energy for multi-stage compression cases.

When to use it

Use it for early equipment sizing, utility planning, and quick option comparison. Do not use it as a substitute for OEM compressor selection, surge analysis, or a full mechanical design package.

Key assumptions

  • Compression is modelled using staged isentropic logic with equal pressure-ratio distribution.
  • Intercooling is assumed between stages, returning gas to the selected inlet temperature basis.
  • Hydrogen properties and efficiency inputs are simplified for early engineering screening, not vendor-certified performance.
  • Default values are starter assumptions and should be replaced before equipment purchase or guarantee discussions.
Isentropic compression power is calculated stage by stage using equal pressure-ratio distribution. Hydrogen specific heat ratio is assumed at k = 1.405, with intercooling between stages back to the selected inlet-temperature basis.

Stage-by-Stage Pressure Profile

Equal pressure ratio per stage assumed. Intercooling returns gas to inlet temperature between stages.
